MESNZ Trade Skills Shortage Survey

PANEL DISCUSSION: Combating the Skill Shortage. As NZ’s talent pool continues to constrict the need to identify new recruitment channels and specially cater for the available talent has reached crisis point. 


·         Will it get better? As international markets contract will people may start returning home

·         Costs, risks and challenges of recruiting from overseas

·         How to cater for an aging workforce

·         Founding an Apprenticeship program within your organisation

·         Looking forward by having on-going recruitment drives

·         The need for an industry-wide commitment

 


These are the sub topics for the panel discussion, to be held at the Brightstar 12th Annual Strategic Maintenance Planning and Management Conference in Auckland, April 20, 21 2009.

 

What we need to know from you is:



  • Apprentice governship. How does the current system compare with the old apprenticeship scheme?

  • Your experiences with apprentice systems, good and bad.

  • The current apprentice schemes and trade training compared with your own personal trade education.Are we doing better?

  • Your opinion on how the apprentice system should work.

  • What effect the college education system is having on tradesmen

  • Your companies attitude to employing apprentices.

  • How accessible is trade training to you?

  • Your companies attitude to training tradesmen.

  • Horror and success stories employing overseas tradesmen.

  • How well trade resourced is your company?

  • Any comment or opinion you have in relation to the panel topics.
